What can I put in my trash cart?

Your English Rentals trash cart is designed for everyday residential household waste. Acceptable items for curbside trash pickup include:

• Bagged and tied regular household trash and kitchen garbage

• Small household appliances such as blenders, toasters, and coffee makers

• Small tree twigs and yard trimmings (no more than 50% of total cart capacity)

• Broken-down cardboard boxes and packaging materials


What CANNOT be placed in my trash cart?

For the safety of our drivers, your community, and the environment, the following items are strictly prohibited from being placed in your residential trash cart:

• Household hazardous waste including: paint, pesticides, herbicides, automotive fluids, motor oil, antifreeze, and car batteries

• Bulky items or oversized items that do not fit inside the cart with the lid closed

• Hot embers, ashes, fireplace coals, flammable materials, or fireworks

• Rocks, bricks, concrete, gravel, soil, or dirt

• Construction debris, remodeling waste, or demolition materials (please ask about our roll-off dumpster rental services for these projects)

• Unprotected medical waste, hypodermic needles, syringes, or sharps

• Lithium-ion batteries (cell phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, vape pens) — these are a serious fire hazard

• Automotive parts, tires, mufflers, or large metal car components



Trash Cart Ownership and Sizing


Who owns the trash cart?

All trash carts provided by our company remain the property of English Rentals & Trash Service and are assigned specifically to your service address. The cart should remain at the home or property when you move, change service, or cancel your account.


What if my trash cart isn't big enough for my household?

Standard residential service includes one (1) 96-gallon wheeled trash cart, providing plenty of capacity for the average family. If your home generates more waste than one cart can hold, additional carts are available for a small quarterly fee. Just contact our office and we will deliver an extra cart to your address.


How to Prepare and Care for Your Trash Cart


How should I prepare my trash cart for pickup?

Following these simple curbside pickup tips ensures fast, safe, and reliable trash collection:

• Bag and tie all household trash before placing it in the cart to prevent spills, odors, and litter

• Set your cart at the curb by 5:00 AM on your scheduled collection day, or place it out the night before

• Make sure the cart is clear of obstructions such as parked vehicles, mailboxes, low-hanging tree branches, or fences

• Position the cart with the wheels facing your house and the lid opening facing the street

• Keep the lid fully closed — overfilled carts may not be emptied


How do I take care of my trash cart?

A clean, well-maintained cart helps prevent odors, pests, and damage. Follow these cart care best practices:

• Place only acceptable items inside the cart

• Do not overfill — the lid must close completely for collection

• Keep the total weight of your cart at or below 100 pounds

• Store your cart in a convenient, secure location away from heavy winds when not at the curb

• Rinse the cart as needed with a garden hose; we recommend Simple Green® cleaner for safe, eco-friendly cleaning and odor control


Trash Pickup Schedule and Service Day Information


When will my trash be collected?

Pickup times can vary throughout the day based on driver routes, traffic, weather, and new customer additions. To make sure your trash is picked up:

• Always have your cart at the curb by 5:00 AM on your scheduled service day

• Pickup times may shift earlier or later as routes are optimized

• If a service delay or schedule change occurs, you will be notified by email


What happens if my trash pickup is delayed?

Occasionally, severe weather, equipment issues, or staffing changes can affect trash collection schedules. If your trash service is delayed, we will send out an email with the updated pickup date. Please leave your cart at the curb until it is emptied.


Do you offer recurring weekly trash service?

Yes! All of our standard residential trash plans are weekly curbside collection services. Same day, every week.


Holiday Trash Pickup Schedule


Do you pick up trash on holidays?

English Rentals & Trash Service observes the following major holidays and will not perform trash pickup on these dates:

• New Year's Day

• Memorial Day

• Independence Day (July 4th)

• Labor Day

• Thanksgiving Day

• Christmas Day


If your regularly scheduled trash collection day falls on one of the holidays listed above, your trash will automatically be picked up on the next business day. There is no need to call — simply leave your cart at the curb and we will service it on the following day.


Billing, Payments, and Invoicing


When is my trash service payment due?

Payments are due on the 1st of the month for each billing cycle. Convenient payment options are available to fit your needs.


How do I pay my trash bill?

We accept multiple payment methods to make managing your trash service simple and stress-free:

• Direct bank account ACH draft (recommended — no surcharge)

• Debit card payments (recommended — no surcharge)

• Credit card payments (please note: a 4% credit card processing surcharge applies)



• Online billing portal access for paperless statements and easy auto-pay setup


To save money on monthly trash service, we encourage customers to pay by bank account or debit card to avoid the 4% credit card processing fee.


Will I receive a receipt for my payment?

Yes. A receipt is automatically emailed to the address on file at the time the transaction is processed. Any additional service fees, extra cart charges, roll-off rentals, or special pickups will be itemized on your monthly invoice.


Starting, Changing, or Canceling Trash Service


How do I start trash service with English Rentals?

Signing up for residential trash pickup is fast and easy. Contact our office by phone or email, provide your service address and contact information.  We will deliver a 96-gallon trash cart to your home. Most new customers can be set up within a few business days.


How do I cancel or change my trash service?

You can cancel or change your residential trash service at any time by contacting our customer service team. Upon cancellation, if a balance is owed, your account will be charged up to the date of cancellation. We will retrieve your trash cart, dumpster, or roll-off container within one (1) week of the cancellation date.


What if I'm switching from another trash service provider?

Switching trash companies is easy! If you currently have a cart from another servicer, please call us at (316) 217-1625 or email us at customerservice@englishrentals.net and we will arrange to swap out your old cart for a brand-new English Rentals & Trash Service branded cart at your address.


Please note: trash carts branded by other companies not listed above cannot be emptied by our drivers. We can only service carts that we own or that have been authorized for replacement.

Yes! Do you offer commercial trash service or business waste pickup?

What happens if my trash cart is damaged or stolen?

If your English Rentals trash cart is damaged, missing, or stolen, please contact our customer service team right away. Since the cart belongs to English Rentals & Trash Service, we will assess the situation and work with you on a replacement. Standard wear and tear is covered; intentional damage may incur a replacement fee.


Do you provide bulk item pickup or large item disposal?

Bulky items such as furniture, mattresses, large appliances, and oversized debris cannot be placed in your standard residential cart. For bulk item disposal, large item removal, or special trash pickup needs, please contact our office in advance to discuss options, including roll-off dumpster rental for larger cleanout projects.


Do you offer recycling services?

For information on current recycling programs, electronic waste (e-waste) drop-off locations, and household hazardous waste disposal in Sedgwick County, Butler County, and Harvey County, please contact our customer service team. Kansas weather can be unpredictable. During severe storms, ice events, blizzards, or tornado warnings, trash collection may be delayed for the safety of our drivers. Customers will be notified by email or text message of any service changes. Please leave your cart at the curb until it is emptied unless instructed otherwise.
